Our Minister
Rob Beamish has been the minister at Prince’s Drive Baptist Church in Colwyn Bay since 2007. He started his training in 1998, working as a Minister in Training (MIT) at a church plant near Oxford until 2001. He was ordained in 2003 after training and working as a primary school teacher near Southampton. His first role as an ordained minister was as the assistant minister at Lymm Baptist Church, where he focused on evangelism and youth work.
Rob has a PGCE in teaching and degrees in theology and philosophy from Oxford and Manchester universities. He also completed a doctorate at King’s College London on ‘Preaching in times of crisis.’ He has further training as a mental health first aider, in person-centred counselling, and in school chaplaincy.
Since 2019, Rob has been part of the tutor team at the ‘Light College’, which offers degrees in theology, mission, and evangelism accredited by the University of Chester. He has taught modules on biblical studies, Christian doctrine, and preaching. From 2020 to 2022, he was seconded one day a week to Northern Baptist College as a tutor supporting Light College students on the Baptist ministerial formation pathway.
Since September 2021, Rob has split his time between leading Prince’s Drive Baptist Church and serving as the chaplain at Rydal Penrhos School, an independent Methodist school in Colwyn Bay. His role there includes overseeing chapel services and assemblies, providing pastoral care to pupils and staff, and conducting weddings and funerals for the school community. He also teaches Religious Studies.
Over the years, Rob has served as a trustee for BMS World Mission and the Lighthouse Fellowship in Llandudno, chaired the local Cytun and a local scout group, and represented Baptists on the Conwy SACRE group for Religious Studies teaching. He has also contributed regularly to BBC Radio Wales and worked with other ministries and organisations.
Rob is actively involved in academic circles, being a member of the British and Irish Association of Practical Theology (BIAPT) and the North American Academy of Homiletics. He has attended their annual conference, sponsored by Oxford University. He has published work on preaching with Grove Books and in the international peer-reviewed journal ‘Practical Theology.’
Rob and his wife Lou have been married since 2001 and have two teenage children and two Shih Tzu dogs.
